Fundraising for the Soroptimist Dream Programs
Since 1921 the Soroptimist International has been finding ways to economically empower women and girls who face obstacles such as poverty, violence or teen pregnancy.
Our years of experience working with women and girls have taught us that education is the key to unlocking economic empowerment of the world’s women and girls. When women and girls are educated, they have opportunity, choice and power to make healthy decisions for themselves and their families.
Live Your Dream Award
Each year, we present remarkable women with the Live Your Dream Award. Hearing their stories of overcoming personal and financial barriers, the joy and satisfaction of studying their chosen profession so they can pursue the career of their dreams, and modeling the spirit of perseverance for their children is what motivates us to do more.
Over half of our Live Your Dream Awards recipients are survivors of domestic violence, trafficking or sexual assault. Nearly all of the women and families we serve have overcome enormous obstacles including poverty, teen pregnancy, and drug or alcohol addiction. Live Your Dream Awards recipients may use the cash award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare, tuition and transportation.
Live Your Dream Award Applications are open August 1 to November 15th annually. Apply now »
Dream It, Be It Program
In the past century women around the world have made historic advances in nearly all
areas of public life, becoming active participants in the work force, electorate, classroom and global economy. Today, women regularly strive for political office, advanced degrees and corporate boardrooms that were once out of bounds.
In all of these advances, girls were historically thought of as the beneficiaries, as opposed to the catalysts, of change. That thinking began to shift with the work of economists who recognized the measurable contribution educated, empowered adolescent girls could make to the global economy.
The innovative Dream It, Be It curriculum was designed based on rigorous research, including interviews and surveys of hundreds of girls in 22 countries. It can be delivered as a facilitated 8-week small group discussion or a full day conference.
In June 2020, we participated in the first ever Ontario-wide Dream It, Be It digital conference hosted by Soroptimist International of Grand Erie. Click on the video below to see why these young women think it’s a great event. No matter what year its being held, or whether it’s in person or online the participants and mentors can be sure to meet new friends, role models, learn new skills, find their passion and have OH so much fun!
Founded in 1921, Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement with a network of around 72,000 club members in 121 countries. Advocating for human rights and gender equality, at the heart of Soroptimist International’s advocacy is its work across eight UN Centres, where our UN representatives ensure that the voices of women and girls are heard. Our membership work on grassroots projects that help women and girls achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspirations and have an equal voice in communities worldwide.
