Recap of our March Meeting

The Beautiful Women Project is an exhibition being held at the at the Downtown Art Centre, Hamilton. The opening evening was on Thursday March 1st and included a welcome from the artist Cheryl-Ann Webster. Our club sponsored $350 towards uncreating of one of the torsos and were sponsors of the opening night. Thank you Jane, who sat on the planning committee at the YWCA.

Following a tour of the exhibit, the ladies of SI-DAF treked down to Capri Restaurant on John St to hear Val Campbell speak about the Living Rock Ministries’ “Just for Gurlz”. This program focuses on healthy lifestyle choices and selfcare for young women aged 16-26. Those participating in the program can also access the food bank and receive other supports through The Rock in Action and Rock Resources Programs.

Activities such as crafts, self-care and topical themes are introduced through informal discussions and teachings that are focused around the needs of the young women (self-esteem, relationships, sexuality, healthy choices, community, etc.). Philpott Memorial Church provides nursery, volunteers and program area for Just for Gurlz.
